Standing Alone

While I was a desperate soul for someone, I was a motivation for someone else.
While I was called dim by someone, I was called Persian Fox by someone else.
While I was told that I have no idea about politics, other appreciated my point of view.
A man called me too proud, a woman called me too good,
I called myself; Standing Alone

He called me to come to his office. He actually insisted to have a meeting with me that day. It was a cold and windy day, I remember.
He opened the door and shook my hands in a warm and friendly fashion and we begun to talk immediately.

I called him my soul mate. Spiritual, friendly, funny, patient with an always open guard and let say a man of family, the same as me. He once told me about his difficulties when he discovered that his wife had cheated on him. He used to be a hotel manager and begun his career with a basic position. I always admired his mind and heart.

"I’m going to ask you a simple question" he said.
"Go ahead dude" I replied.
"Can I count on your leadership skills?" He asked.
"Yes, you can."
"Are you ready to handle a demanding job that requires multi-tasking?" He continued.
"Yep, it’s cool."

He knew that I’m going to study an MBA and he knew I may go to the ……. nevertheless he offered me the position.

"It’s yours Mehrdad because you are the only one who can do it" he said.

"I want to have all your leadership, coaching, consultant and psychological skills at the same time for this job" he continued.

I got home and prepared a hot cup of tea. It started to rain and I loved it. I knew coaching is not therapy, psychology or counseling. Coaching uses a more holistic approach, where I would team up with the client(s) to examine the situation, create a plan of action, and work side by side to resolve the issue. I knew that I do not have to be an expert in the client’s business. The client is the expert. I have to collaborate with the client to create a solution using their knowledge and answers, and since I was a spiritual, ethical & sociable man, I could do it.

"Your knowledge will let you to do it Mehrdad" my new boss said.

I personally knew that coaching is totally different than mentoring.

I accepted it.

The day after, I was assistant manager.
